A Poet I Have Long Enjoyed...A Word on Friendship
Just one example.....David Whyte, an excerpt on what he said about friendship...so many of his poems bring tears to my eyes...and no...my tears "filter" has never "reset" itself since Em died, and probably, never will (a good thing).
..."Friendship transcends disappearance: an enduring friendship goes on after death, the exchange only transmuted by absence, the relationship advancing and maturing in a silent internal conversational way even after one half of the bond has passed on.
But no matter the medicinal virtues of being a true friend or sustaining a long close relationship with another, the ultimate touchstone of friendship is not improvement, neither of the self nor of the other, the ultimate touchstone of friendship is witness, the privilege of having been seen by someone and the equal privilege of being granted the sight of the essence of another, to have walked with them and to have believed in them, and sometimes just to have accompanied them for however brief a span, on a journey impossible to accomplish alone."
I just think that is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. What better way can you describe a true friend? Anyway, I have loved his writing for many years and thought someone might like to explore his words, and you might find some things that truly speak to your heart. I think he said something about poetry to the effect that it is an interface between one's experience of the outer world and the inner core of one's being, one's heart, one's soul. I like that. That kind of reverberates right inside me.
